A poem for the Russian serf of the early nineteenth century in all of us:

Three days for you Alexei

And three days for the master

Your last day’s for the Lord

Alexei, which ones go by faster?

Your spirits raised by words

Which gave you half a chance

But still you’ll tend the herds

Alexei or you’ll wield the lance

 

Your fate was never yours, my lad

You belong to Russia Mother

So Alexei, bear your lot, be glad

Or strangle with your brother.

 

You knew your Father well

He swelled above the rest

Only to be beat to hell

The place you all know best.

 

Now go and tend the fields Alexei

Keep three days for the master

Fail to brew a stoic strength

So the sweet Lord takes you faster.

OH MY GOD why why why can’ t I find any peace in the library??? I’m on the fourth floor, the farthest from civilization possible, and so far the only normal person anywhere is this one Indian dude a few chairs down actually being quiet and doing work…these two girls have been giggling and practically shouting in the stairwell for the past hour…as if the 800 year old wooden doors to the stairwell are soundproof…and now this cutesy couple decides to grace me with a makeout performance to which I am the private audience…they’re making out hardcore five feet away from me in my direct view in the stacks as if I’m another forgotten book on C++ code…lovely…fabulous…people are sometimes so oblivious it’s disgusting…there is no way I am THAT oblivious even if I get wrapped up in my own bubble of a world sometimes…anyway, here’s the mix-a-roo:
